PeopleSoft Buzz at OpenWorld
Now that OpenWorld is complete, we wanted to send out an update about the major announcements and some commentary from the experts at IntraSee. One would expect a lot of buzz at OpenWorld over the acquisition of Sun Microsystems or the new release of WebCenter Suite, the next-generation Fusion portal offering. However, sources tell us that out of the top ten sessions at OpenWorld, all ten were about PeopleSoft. A lot of excitement over PeopleTools 8.50 and the 9.1 apps especially around the newer AJAX technology. The focus of the 8.50 toolset plays well into usability which was a hot topic all week.
Oracle Releases PeopleTools 8.50
PeopleTools 8.50 was announced at OpenWorld and it brings with it a host of new features. The theme of this release was Web 2.0. Row inserts, row deletes, prompts, tabs and more are all AJAXified providing for a much faster experience navigating around the applications. Pagelets are drag and drop and the pagelet minimize, maximize and refresh functions are all now dynamic. Another big change is a completely re-written menu that no longer occupies the left hand of your screen. The new menu can be dynamically brought down from the top of the page and AJAX is used to drill into folders for a better overall experience. There are, however, some bugs with JavaScript, CSS layouts, and some overall clunkiness to the new menu. We expect this to get worked out over patches, but make sure to do enough homework and patching before launching PeopleTools 8.50. Enterprise Portal Delivered with PeopleTools 8.50!
One of the biggest, yet under-the-covers announcements made at OpenWorld is that Oracle will now be providing a limited-license to the Enterprise Portal for all PeopleTools 8.50 customers. This is a requirement to run the new related content framework that can enable discussions, links, tags and more in your PeopleSoft applications. While the license doesn't provide full functionality, it allows customers to get an Enterprise Portal installed in order to fully explore the benefits
IntraSee can help you get the most out of the Enterprise Portal. Our Portal Workshop will make sense of all the functionality and help you form a strategy for deployment within your organization. Whether you are interested in a HR Portal, an Employee portal or a organization-wide portal, we adjust our workshop to your particular needs. Contact us at contact@intrasee.com about our workshops.
