The PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal provides a set of functionality distinctive among portals. Session 25809:Top 10 Ways to Use Web Services in PeopleSoft (Wednesday 3/12/2008, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM)

Operational flexibility and efficiency are imperatives for today's organization, hence the push toward SOA and Web Services. Enterprise applications are now seeing the benefits of exposing their core functionality via Web Services, allowing for more flexible integration between applications. You will be surprised at how many places web services serve a role in a traditional PeopleSoft implementation. We will also cover some common governance pitfalls to avoid during web service enablement.

Session 25810:Top 10 Tips For Adding Web 2.0 Features to PeopleSoft (Wednesday 3/12/2008, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM)

Check out Yahoo or Google and you will see that interactive Web 2.0 principles are now the standard, and that anything less is considered old fashioned and clunky. PeopleSoft often comes across as Web 1.0 to a user community that expects more. By using delivered tools, see how AJAX, DHTML, & XSLT can transform PeopleSoft into a Web 2.0-like application.

Keeping your Technology Adverse Users Happy!

ERP applications, like PeopleSoft, can often look clunky and unintuitive compared to the top Internet sites like Yahoo.com. By adding AJAX and Web 2.0 techniques to your ERP suite you can completely transform the user experience into something they will be familiar and comfortable with. There are many ways you can do this without customizing your ERP software.

At IntraSee we can show you many examples of how we have extended PeopleSoft to look and feel like a modern and intuitive Internet site. The key is keeping pace with your audiences expectations of a website without alienating your change resistant users. Yahoo doesn't have to conduct training for users, and by implementing similar design techniques in your ERP software, you can introduce technology in a way that everyone can understand.

Here are some things to remember when designing your ERP interfaces:

  • The controls need to make sense. In other words, use icons that users will recognize and descriptive labels.
  • Design processes to mimic the interfaces of familiar applications
  • Using alt tags to describe the function of the control can help to prevent user confusion
  • Do not clutter the screen. Less is more, as long as it gets the point across.
  • Consistency reinforces concepts. Whenever possible, use the same visual patterns to indicate the same controls throughout your application.

Most of all, remember that the goal of implementing anything into your enterprise application is to improve the user experience. Keeping the application familiar and simple while incorporating some of the cutting edge features used on the Internet can sometimes be tricky, but with the right implementation approach, you can successfully achieve the best of both worlds.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about how we can leverage your portal investment into the best return for your organization.
